Team of research investigators at Centre of virology at Institute of public health of Vojvodina, Medical faculty in Novi Sad is composed of two professors of microbiology, parasitology and immunology, with subspecialty certification in virology;

Centre of virology performs investigation of viral respiratory infections, detection of viral epidemics and examination of sexually transmitted diseases. One of the functions of the Centre is to act as a National Influenza Centre of World Health Organisation, performing continuous virological surveillance of influenza virus activity in population of Vojvodina. Since 2003, in colaboration with researchers from Faculty of agriculture in Novi Sad, the team has been working on investigations of West Nile virus infections in humans and on detection of virus in mosquitoes in Vojvodina and Serbia. Seroepidemiolocal survey of blood donors and other citizens of Vojvodina, using immunoenzyme assays, enabled determination of seroprevalence and significance assessment of this importante human pathogen in Serbia, in the begining of 21st century. Since 2011, the team has been performing the determination of virus in human and mosquitos samples, by detection of viral RNA using real-time RT-PCR assay.
